About Me

My name is Jared Taylor and I am a designer and developer with over 20 years of experience. I majored in Computer Graphics Technology with a Web Design focus at Purdue while also running my own design and hosting company.

I've held many positions requiring me to jump between development and design, with my highest position being Digital Product Designer. I want to join your team.

My Stack

For the last 8 years I have done all of my work on Macs, but I spent most of my life working with Windows and Linux. I like to use and support Open Source projects wherever it makes sense. I love testing and researching new tools and novel design techniques. I have enjoyed catching up with the last few years of innovation and really can't say enough about Astro, Svelte and Figma.

Case Studies

Since the beginning of my career, documentation requirements have expanded quite a bit in scope. I have updated my skills in documentation and presentation to compete with the current expectations. The work shown here displays my UX research and analysis skills in various ways. I'm currently working on the following freelance projects that will take shape over Spring 2023.     Beegraphy Mobile

    Beegraphy is a new platform for building and selling parametrically designed products. This wireframe prototype was part of a study to make the site more accessible and user friendly.

About This Site

I wanted a single-page portfolio site with a simple, mobile-first experience. I experimented with lots of frameworks and data solutions while getting up to speed with 2022 development workflows. Eventually I settled on building the frontend with Astro and Tailwind CSS. Then I set up a Headless CMS using CosmicJS and small bit of React to help parse the content stored in Markdown files. The repo is stored on Github, while build and deploy are handled by Vercel magic in less than a minute.

The next step for me is learning more about the emerging discipline of DesignOps using design tokens, and something like Storybook to develop components that are centralized and well-documented. I didn't know any of this stuff two months ago but modern development has evolved so much in the last few years that I feel like I just got super-powers!

The CEO/owner got in touch with me about exploring a rebrand and redesign of their website. The growing company's needs have changed and their current WordPress site is years out of date in terms of content and technology.

This is a spec proposal for an app I came up with for a job that turned out to be an elaborate scam. Someone posing as an HR rep at FashionNova contacted me and I did multiple interviews. The job was real, but the person I was contacted by was a scammer.

After passing multiple rounds of interviews, including this project, they tried to rope me into some identity theft and fraud scheme. It's not complete, but I put too much work into it not to show it here.
